Monster Week on Ch 7

These ads were clipped from 1974 TV Guide for the week of January 5th through the 11th. New York's Channel 7 (ABC) was showing these fun films, and by all accounts this was the first Monster Week of many.

For much more info on these week-long film features on Ch. 7, visit this page: DVD Drive-In!

Extra: I've just discovered three new (to me) blogs by the incredibly prolific Jon K who seems to have the same love for genre blogging as I do! For a monstrous good time, check them all out at:
I thought I was doing a lot with my own four blogs (soon to be five) but this guy puts me to shame with over a DOZEN! And most have new posts every day! How does he ever get anything else done? Please, Jon, share your secret with me... do you have a cloning machine like Keaton did in "Multiplicity?"

  2. I don't have any cloning technology, Frederick -- just a HUGE backlog of photos to share! Thanks for the linkage, and I hope as I add more monster-related blogs, you'll add those, too!

  3. Maurizio,

Thanks forstopping by, for commenting, and for the link!

Your artwork is awesome, I can see the Crumb and especially the Basil Wolverton influence, for certain!

I used to copy the Wolverton artwork that I saw in the paper The Monster Times. I think I need to scan in one of those articles to share, soon...

  5. Monster Week! That wonderful 4:30 Movie theme was the harbinger of the end of the school day.
In second place to "Monster Week" was "Super-Hero Week" where they'd show the 1966 Batman Movie (cut up over 2 days) and the Cathy Crosby version of "Wonder Woman"

  6. Thanks for putting this stuff up! I was involved in a Facebook discussion of "The 4:30 Movie" and this was a great reference!

  7. Thank you so much for posting this! I looked forward seeing these movies when I was a kid. We didn't have VCRs and they were big events. The ads would get me excited. This is the first time I've seen those tv guide ads in years! Awesome stuff.

  8. We always ran home from school to catch Monster Week. Planet of the Apes Week and Bad Ronald also caused the suspension of all street hockey and Nurf football games. We were not allowed to eat and watch TV, so we wolfed our food down during commercial breaks.
